Terry got an OBE (Order of the British Empire) - for services to literature
I
suppose.

Isn't this round of awards the new sort where people can nominate them
rather than just being the Queen's Birthday or whatever?

Oh Lord! We're being spammed again! Calle?

Of course Avon would just fry their connection.
Blake... would try to negotiate.
Vila would just put up with it.
Gan would buy the friendship bread and bake it and give some to
everyone.
Jenna would distract Blake to let Avon get on with zapping them.
Cally would eat Gan's bread.

Dayna would eat the bread _while_ encouraging Avon to zap the Spammer.
Tarrant would go play with the beautiful Amish girl.
Soolin would outshoot the Spammer while Avon was still working on frying
the connection.

We certainly do have WD40 - available at any hardware store, and I would
guess 90% of toolsheds across the nation. A million and one uses.

But don't spray it on paper things! WD40 is a mix of various detergents,
lubricants and aerosols. Now, while the detergent is the bit you want, and
might well work, I doubt very much that the lubricants or aerosols would do
the cover much good at all. WD40 is designed for metal and things that
don't need to be kept pristine, just lubricated.

You could give it a go on some innocent bits of card first, I guess (try an
old birthday or Christmas card), but my instinct is to keep WD40 well away
from anything porous that needs to be kept the same colour as it started
out. I might be wrong, of course.

Really? I get the impression that Vila would steal the recipe and sell
it, or use it to drive the "Amish Friendship Bread Co" out of business,
thereby setting himself up for a life of lazyness.

I could be wrong about that, of course.

Hi folks, just thought I'd announce the existance of the new Enarrare'
web page. Annie H. doesn't have net access, so I volunteered to make
a web-page for the zine. It has information on all the
currently-available and upcoming issues of Enarrare', plus some
history. In the "upcoming" department, Issues 9 and 11 should be
coming out in August. Issue 9 was postponed in order to bring out
Issue 10 (a S:AAB special) for Neutral Zone. Issue 11 is also a S:AAB
special, but Issue 9 has the usual mix of Blake's 7, Doctor Who, UFO
and other SF stuff.
The URL? Yeah, I almost forgot that.
http://home.connexus.net.au/~kat/enarrare/enarrare.htm

(Please note, for anyone linking to my home page, that the address is
now home.connexus.net.au instead of connexus.apana.org.au. The old
address will remain current probably til the end of the year)

Judith dreamed

In my wilder dreams, somebody decides to re-edit Blake's 7 and changes
nothing except the special efects. Not a single character moment is lost or
changed, but the space battles suddenly look amazing.
*****
Massed battle scenes choreographed like Bab 5 and Independence Day, computer
generated FX like the Lost In Space movie (travis in that body armour ),
plenty of extras and expensive sets like 5th Element, monsters like Men In
Black. Characters like B7. Yeah ! It works !

Hey - have you tried eucalyptus oil?? It's very good at dissolving sticky
stuff allowing labels and stickers to be peeled off and it doesn't do
damage to ink [though if you're not sparing with it it can leave and oil
stain]
I know you can get in Aust. very easily. Chemists often stock it too.

Hey, I used to really fancy, um, whatsisname, when I was about 9 and he was
Peter Crawford in Dixon of Dock Green!
I think his eyebrows must have grown during the intervening years.

Perhaps that's what they were aiming for - someone a young girl would have had
a crush on when he was younger, and so still held that attraction, and the
audience wouldn't need to be given too much background because they could
patch that in from their previous knowledge of the actor - when he was Riker
to Jack Warner's Picard :).

At long last we have obtained a copy of the
latest video from HMV in Stockport - who had both
shiny and non-shiny versions.

One thing we noticed though about the shiny Limited
Edition, is that it is now even more limited.

The first four tapes said that it was a limited edition
of 7000 - whereas the new tape says it is only 3000.

Does anyone know or can speculate on the rationale
behind this change?

Hurrah! This is excellent in and of itself and also because it shows that
the bits don't have to be stories, and they don't have to be posted on
space city. And I like this kind of referential stuff. Get posting you
Lysator types.

Here is a request, that I'll probably have a go at myself. However I am
keen to fob off all the work on the rest of you.. err.. encourage
participation from throughout the B7 community.

Is it possible to extract chunks from the scripts that are exactly 49
words?

The only one I have been able to think of is:

'How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck would chuck wood?
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck would chuck wood? How
much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck would chuck wood? How
much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck..'

But purists may think this is rather a cheat.

Alison

PS Una, thanks and I hope I can use it 'cos I'm going to anyway

I think you got Blake wrong on this one. He might determine that Spammers
are the underming the freedom of the internet, and regretfully would
determine the only course of action is too seek out the ISP that hosts the
spammer and destroy all their servers. He would, of course, be tricked by
the spammer into pursing a faked IP address and end up attacking a large,
heavily guarded empty server room.

Yes, but what I want to know is how did "Animals" end up in the Wheat
section? And above "Blake" no less!

Vila: City at the Edge of the World

"All right, that's it. No speak, no walk. My feet hurt and I
didn't want to come anyway. [sits] 'Course, I'm totally lost,
you realize that. Yes, of course you realize that. I don't
suppose you'd consider taking me back to where you met me.
  No, of course you wouldn't."

Or even better (I havn't counted the names of the speakers):

VILA: I thought you might need this.
AVON: Thanks.
CALLY: So you're Shrinker. He doesn't look like much.
TARRANT: It depends on what you paid to get him.
AVON: He cost me enough.
CALLY: Was it worth it?
AVON: I'll let you know.
SHRINKER: What are you going to do with me?
DAYNA: He's going to kill you.

And best of all:

   VILA: It's him.
TARRANT: He sold us, Avon. All of us. Even you.
   AVON: Is it true?
  BLAKE: Avon, it's me, Blake.
AVON: Stand still! Have you betrayed us?
	    Have you betrayed me?!
  BLAKE: Tarrant doesn't understand!
   AVON: Neither do I, Blake!
BLAKE: I set all this up!
   AVON: Yes!
BLAKE: Avon, I was waiting for YOU.

  BLAKE: Avon!
   DEVA: Blake!

Well, I know the end is cheating a bit, but why not?

I think you got Blake wrong on this one. He might determine that Spammers
are the underming the freedom of the internet, and regretfully would
determine the only course of action is too seek out the ISP that hosts the
spammer and destroy all their servers. He would, of course, be tricked by
the spammer into pursing a faked IP address and end up attacking a large,
heavily guarded empty server room.

ROFL! If these little gems are the usual result of spam on this list, I hope we get more of it!

Yes, yes Yes!

Oh, heck I mustn't quote them all. These are just great, they fit
perfectly.

I talked to the BBC's information desk on the phone today. The
woman there initially said they were trying to slot Lost in Space
in this Friday at 7.15pm. I pointed out that we were only two
days away and couldn't she a bit more certain. She then rang
the scheduling department and came back to me and said there
was no slot available for at least the next two weeks. She said
ring back in a week or so. I got the impression that they were
not in any hurry. That is why I think it is essential that we keep
the pressure on otherwise it might just get dropped altogether.
The direct line to the information room is 0181 576 1111. I
have told them I will keep trying until there is a decision (and
after if it's the wrong decision).

I thought you may be interested in reading a reply I
was sent from the BBC today, very polite and very predictable but
there are some interesting points. Since someone was kind enough to
leave the BBC viewers comments address, I couldn't resist dropping
them a line. My original letter follows the reply.

Thank you for your comments about the above programme. In past years,
because of agreements made with the performers+ unions, the size of
repeat fees for anything other than very recent drama has been a
significant obstacle to our repeating some of the classic serials and
dramas of years gone by. The BBC and the broadcasting industry are
changing so dramatically, however, that repeat transmissions of
productions of this kind are much more likely in the current climate, as
the BBC and other broadcasters begin to make use of their history and
achievements in a more dedicated way.

We will certainly bear your request in mind, although I am sure you will
understand that where the cost of repeating a particular programme
remains exceptional we would prefer to spend the money on new
production. It is also worth mentioning that a number of our older
drama productions have not withstood the test of time in terms of sound
and visual quality, and we also have the problem of limited airtime. We
can only set aside a certain number of hours each year for repeat
programmes and we do actually receive a substantial number of complaints
from viewers insisting that their licence fee be spent on the production
of new programmes.

I hope the above is helpful.

Something I've adapted (very minimally, by some fluke) from an ancient post

Blake's 7 when..." and is not included in the word count.
