I won`t say that I`m more knowledgeable, but I also think Cuckoo Waltze
was before Blakes 7.
Cuckoo waltze also had Lewis Collins in it, very much pre-
Professionals, which was before Blakes 7.
Perhaps Josette did her episodes while still at drama school?
Unless of course the series (or 2) that had Lewis in was indeed before
Blakes 7 & Professionals, and was remade after for Josette to guest in.
I vaguely remember somebody else other than Lewis as the Cuckoo for at
least another seies.

Yes - I - *very* vaguely seem to remember David Jason being in it, but with no
idea of what part he played.

I know exactly what you mean, Julie. I do it all the time, especially with
programmes on cable channels. I see, say, the end of something, think it was
interesting and hope to catch it all next time, then a few months later find
myself tuning in at exactly the same point again. There are some series I've
only ever seen ten minutes of, but I've seen that ten minutes half a dozen
times!

I must delurk to agree. Much as I love Blake, I think losing Avon would have
been fatal. Still, without Blake, we would never have come to love Avon so
much. Blake enabled us to find that "something" in Avon that made him so much
more than a dark, selfish sod. None of the other characters were able to
illuminate that other part of Avon as well as Blake, though Cally would have
been second.

And Vila, on occaision. Tho, I think there was kind of a tacit agreement
between them to take each other at face value.

Only a minor, ie one episode, Blake's 7 connection here I'm

"The Glass Menagerie" at the Battersea Arts Centre (Lavender

The BBC Information Office has just told me that the lost B7 episode of
Lost in Space should be transmitted on Friday, July 10. They couldn't
confirm the time slot yet, but thought something similar to the original
(7.15 p.m.). I presume it's still BBC2!

Has anyone else been given the same information (as I'm a bit paranoid
about it)?

It's between Test matches, so shouldn't be interrupted by cricket. I take
no responsibility for any other sporting events.

Thanks for your e-mail.

I am sorry that you were disappointed by the late cancellation of 'Lost

Last Friday 12th June at 7.15 my husband, my children and I sat down to
watch
the eagerly awaited Blake's 7 edition of the excellent Lost In Space
series.
You can imagine our dismay when a caption flashed up to inform us that
it had
been postponed in favour of yet more sport.

I telephoned the number listed in Radio Times and was informed that
'live
sport always takes precedence'. Well, yes, we'd noticed, that was what I
was
complaining about. However, I was assured that Lost In Space would be
shown
next Friday. At the end of the tennis we listened for confirmation of
the
rescheduling - but there was no mention of Lost In Space, just a
profound
apology for the postponement of 'Quantum Leaps'. Now I see from your
on-line
listings that Lost In Space is not, in fact, scheduled for next Friday.

This is yet another example of the BBC's disrespect for it's own archive
material and for science fiction and it's fans in particular. As far as
I
know, this short 15 minute program about Blake's 7 fans was the BBC's
*only*
recognition of the existence of Blake's 7 in it's 20th anniversary year.
I
would have expected a full-length documentary together with a repeat
screening
of the series.

I have seen most of the other editions of Lost In Space and found them
to be
interesting, intelligent and entertaining. You can therefore imagine my
disappointment when the edition about one of my favourite series was
postponed
indefinitely.

So, when will it be shown, and when will Blake's 7 itself be repeated?

Okay, so you all have probably discussed this to
death, but I have to hear other opinions about it:
Was Avon crazy? ( or mad for our English cousins:)
I have seen several episodes where Avon goes on and on about money
and money that, but in the second episode where the original crew gets
on the liberator and Avon discovers wealth beyond that of the banking
cartel. So, episodes like gambit do not make sense, because the crew is
already wealthy, from that point.
And why is he so nasty to people who would protect him ( except
Vila)? And whassup with that fourth season dude- way different from the
cold, mean snob we all love to hate 1st season. 4th season looked as if
ham on wry was being served for lunch every day! And finally, dear god,
why didn't the crew kill him if he such an goddamn jerk?

Yep, we sure have :-) Always interesting to get a new perspective, though.

I think that there are people who regard the acquisition of money as an end
in itself - they're playing a game, using dollars/credits/ningis/vems as a
means of keeping score. The thrill comes from the winning (seeing the mony
come in), not the after-match function (the spending of the money
afterwards). I think that, in Gambit, Avon and Vila went gambling to beat
the casino, not because they wanted the money itself (except as a trophy)
but because they wanted to take the money from someone else.

I have lots of reasons for liking Gambit (that red gown, the catfight, the
incredible shrinking Orac, Avon spitting up his food ... ;-) )

> And why is he so nasty to people who would protect him ( except
>Vila)?

My take on this is "it's just his way". Bit of a cop-out, I know. I think
he likes to operate alone, and doesn't enjoy having to rely on others. And,
fwiw, I think he's pretty nasty to Vila on occasion, too. (damn - now I
want to give an example, and I can't think of one :-( )

>And whassup with that fourth season dude- way different from the
>cold, mean snob we all love to hate 1st season. 4th season looked as if

>why didn't the crew kill him if he such an goddamn jerk?

Well, in S1 he was "along for the ride" - Blake made the decisions, Avon
would often argue with him, but generally go along with the programme.
After Blake disappeared, Avon fell into the leadership role, and the safety
of the ship and crew were on his shoulders. I think he resisted allowing
Tarrant to take charge because he didn't want to see his destiny in the
hands of another again, after allowing Blake to lead him around for so
long. By S4 he had lost the Liberator and Cally, so he had failed at least
partially in the protective leadership role. I think that burden of guilt
would take a great emotional toll, especially in someone who would refuse
to admit to it.

But I don't think Avon was mad in the clinical sense. Very stressed out,
but not certifiably insane.
All of this is IMHO, of course :-)

> Just asking you b7 elders!

Elders? I don't know that I qualify for that distinction ;-)

I don't think I've seen you on the list before, Edith. Welcome!
