Something like that, yes. I try to be fairly polite here, but I do
have bad days every now and then. If you want to see me being

No one character reflects me totally. I have the moral imperative of Blake,
the leadership of Avon (that is to say, reluctantly. I have to be pushed
into leading others since I'm more at home pointing out the folly of those
who think they're leaders), the empathy of Cally, the "melt like butter
anytime I see a damsel in distress" of Tarrant (at times, I can also be as
irritating as Tarrant, too), and sometimes the naivete of Dayna. However,
most of the time I feign stupidity like Vila while smiling on the inside,
content that everyone else is the fool. ;)
Oh, and I must confess that I've never read the netiquette guide, but then,
maybe everyone already knew that.

When we saw Neil Gamian at a con a few years back, he brought a rough-cut
version of the first episode. It was quite good, even without fx and music,
and proper editing. You folks in Seattle are quite lucky to see this! I
believe Neil said there were six episodes. There are two novels or
novelizations; one is the American version from Avon Books, with American
language usage instead of British [why they felt the need for this, I have
no clue :) ] ; and a UK edition--I will find out the publishers if you
like, or you can check out the newsgroup alt.fan.neil-gaiman and look for
a pointer to the FAQ.

Since I asked the question, I'd probably best put in my two cents worth. I
wish I could say I am like Jenna (a most excellent heroine IMHO!). I loved
her courage, style, ambition, determination, and skill in her area. Actually,
I am probably a cross between Vila and Cally. A bit mother hen-ish,
protective of those close to me or underdogs of any kind, quick with a joke,
and prone to Vila-like blunders when I should have known better.
I like my exposure to danger to come from the other side of the TV screen,
though I am quite capable of getting my back up if its required to fight
injustice (especially in areas close to home). I'm told that I used to be as
arrogant as Avon, but my two kids cured me of that. Now I am much slower to
make judgments about other people (God forgive me for all the arrogant
statements I made about how "my children" would never be as noisy, messy, or
annoying as most kids!) And I'm quicker to forgive childish behavior in
children and adults both. Kids are excellent teachers of patience - I'm sure
that's why I can't visualize Avon with any ;-).
Since I can't imagine Avon with kids, it makes him excellent romantic material
in my book. I am a devoted member of the Avon Fan Club, and I hereby make an
official request to join the Avon Without Guilt Club.
I've really enjoyed all the character analysis in these self-evaluations!
It's interesting to see how other folks view the personalities of our heros.

Well, it was never all that much of a club-- only about four or five people
in the first place! We had buttons (=badges) to wear at conventions, and
signs for our doors that said "Unrepentent Avon Fan Within." There were
several nice parties at various cons, but AWG activities fell off
considerably when our illustrious Founder, Pat Jacquerie, developed medical
problems that made it necessary for her to cut down on fanac (including this
list, alas, although you can still chat with her on Space City).
AWG activities, such as they are, are frequently coordinated with Tarrant
Nostra activities-- in fact, most of the AWGers are TN too. So it's
definitely OK to like someone else.
Especially Servalan, since she had the good taste to be attracted to both
Avon and Tarrant. ;)

Hello all.
For some reason, I don't know why or how, I've always assumed Calle and
Gwynn were males. Calle's gender, I suspect, I guessed because, even
now, that level of skill with computer systems tends to be a masculine
thing (yes, I know that's changing and will not always be the case).
With Gwynn, I don't know what it was that made me think he was
definitely male.
As for Kathryn bringing up the subject of personality tests - recent
results from the Keirsey site suggest that I've settled into something
resembling Cally, which I allow is fair enough (given the way I behave
normally), but a little disconcerting when I *feel* more like I'm
somewhere between Vila 'discretion is the better part of valour, and
cowardice is the better part of discretion' Restal and his colleague, Mr
"Well now".
I hope Gwynn suggesting that he's not unlike Tarrant means that he isn't
far too pretty for his own good (no, Carol, put that blunt instrument
away and try reason instead - I respond quite well to reason when
compared to force).

No, just kidding. I consider your ability to recognize that Tarrant is
"far too pretty for his own good" to be a good thing. What's not to
like about "too pretty"? :) I could wish that more people were too
pretty. Pretty over every square inch...

Having got back from holiday (we took a narrowboat around the Avon ring -
stopping off in Stratford Upon Avon for an afternoon to trawl the Royal
Shakespeare Company archives for new photos of Gareth Thomas) I figure it's
about time that I tried to organise a theatre group.
Who else wants to come and see The Crucible in Bromley? Quite apart from Gareth
being in it, it's supposed to be a damn good play in its own right.
If we get a group of ten or more people, there's a ten percent discount.
I've made an arbitary choice of date for Saturday 19 September on the grounds
that Saturdays are the only days I can get to Bromley.
The theatre is the Churchill theatre in Bromley. The play starts at 7.45 and
tickets cost 17, 16 or 12 pounds depending on where your seat is.
Seeing as I'm travelling from Dorset to Bromley, I figure I might as well get
the 17 pound ticket - this is my Christmas present from last Xmas.
If you want to come, let me know what type of ticket you want and if we end up
with ten or more, I'll book us as a group.
If there's enough of us, maybe we could meet up somewhere before the show and
have a drink together.
