Could someone please help me with unsubscribing from this list. I'm going away
for 6 months and will not have access to email. I don't seem to be having any
luck finding the commands.

Thanks

Hello.

1) What Suzanne needs is a cloning facility. I'm sure I read something
in the digests at the FTP site about clones, particularly Avon ones.

2) Gail, so far as I can see, Blake needed a reason to attack an
individual or group. The goose that made me nervous around other geese
did not (vicious, extra-territorial beast that it was). Therefore, I
don't see any significance in hating geese, but if you do, let me know.

3) Alison, has anyone of the Tarrant Nostra persuasion made note of how
interesting that John Clare quote would be to them? Either that or
there's been a glitch in receiving the digest and it doesn't actually
say what is printed out in front of me.

Regards
Joanne

It is little details like this - and the string from which the fearful
vampire dangles - that really *make* a horror film, and qualifies
it for the high honour of a Duff Oscar.

This is very good - all very apt. Could the skunk be the guy (sorry, mind like
a sieve)
in Shadow? Can't think of anyone playful enough for an otter.

Badgers are my favourite animal, though I didn't know they were related to
stoats and weasels, almost my entire knowledge of which is based on The Wind In
The Willows!. Badgers also have strong family/group bonds and hold funerals for
Very Important Badgers.

I haven't thought of anyone for the otter, but I think Zukan makes a good
polecat.

And furthermore, the =appearance= of the characters is not accurately
described! From p. 65:

"'It's very simple,' said Kerr Avon, who spoke with such knowing authority
that Blake looked up, rather surprised, He saw a man with large pale eyes
and a high domed forehead, who at a guess was somewhere in his thirties."

Avon as homely, geeky nerd, LOL! This must have been written before the
casting was done, or indeed, as you point out, before the sets were designed.

The dialogue was spiffed up, too, by the time it was actually filmed.

Really, I think it had much to do with the eccentric charm of the show that
in the end they went against perceptions of type and cast a handsome and
rather flamboyant actor as the computer geek. But then, as you know, I'm a
shameless Avon fan. :)

And Vila was described as a small, ugly man, looking like a "gargoyle", as
I recall, and Jenna was a brunette.

I vote for around 5pm. Gives us a couple of hours to have a good chat and
allows a good margin of error in case of rail delays etc.

heh heh I thought so too

I think when John Clare said 'long shagged' he meant 'with long bushy hair'
which is also appropriate to Tarrant of course

Since there seems to be interest... <g> I thought I'd share my initial
reaction to the post.
What you all may not realize is that when your favorite character is fandom's
chief whipping boy you expect the worst.

As I scanned down the list of Mustelidae entries I was cringing in
anticipation of what horrible fate awaited Tarrant. So my first reaction was
one of relief: "at least he wasn't assigned the skunk." My next reaction was
realization that given the origin of the post--England--both meanings of
"shag" were probably intended to apply to Tarrant.
("Shag" for *that* meaning isn't common over here.) Which I thought was cute.
:) At which point I was left content and didn't feel the need to comment,
though I did save the post in case something clever or appropriate occurred to
me down the road.

I've been enjoying the animal discussions, but I've not come up with anything
to contribute to them.

Well, I hold the next 2 in my grubby paws (well, not while I'm typing, but
you get the picture).

Took a while to persuade the person in HMV that I hadn't ordered
*episodes* 9 and 10, I'd ordered *tapes* 8 and 9!!

'There should be 2 of them!'
'Yes, there are 2 on every tape!'
<Sound of head thumping on counter...>

And it's going to build up to a nice piccie of the Liberator.

I'm just so pleased that I'm able to get hold of these so easily after all
the grief so far...

Reminds me of when I was in England. I was waiting in HMV to pay for a
couple of tapes (non-B7) and the guy in front of me was asking if all the
B7 tapes had been released at once. The salesperson was looking in her
computer and umming and ahhing. I butted in saying no they were being
released a couple every month. Me and this guy then got into a nice
conversation about B7.

What amazes me though is that he wanted to buy the whole series at once! He
was also wondering if they were on DVD, to which I said *Right!*.

He does indeed. <smile> Actually, over time you get to appreciate more of the
characters. I'd probably be able to pitch a good defence for most of them if I
had to.

I certainly wouldn't deny its existence. It never bothers me because Avon
developed an equally ruthless streak. (Stardrive and Orbit instantly come to
mind). If people don't mind it in Avon, why should I assume they mind it in
Blake? They were both complex characters and you can only understand them
properly if you see their character from all sides. If you don't accept the
rough along with the smooth, then you're only fooling yourself.

It's a very interesting area. One of the things that I find interesting about
Blake is the prices he was forced to pay. Film/TV heroes are so often allowed
to win their fights without ever having to face compromise in their personal
ethics. Blake is unusual in that he was forced into a situation where the
perfect knight in shining armour simply wasn't going to win.

Avon was gradually forced along a similar path, although the effect on their
personalities was not identical (as one might expect given their different
natures to begin with)

Pat Fenech has checked out Australian postage rates for me. They're a bit more
expensive than UK rates - due to the size of the country I'd guess.

If anyone wants Richard to bring zines over for them, the most expensive zine is
at my normal European price (that's to cover the higher postage). All
subsequent zines to the same address will be at my UK price.

Let Pat know what you want and she'll tell me. Use an exchange rate of 2.8 Aus
dollars to the pound to do your sums.

I can hear the collective moan now, but can someone tell me how to
subscribe to the Space City list? Also instructions on how to
unsubscribe, since it was so difficult for me last time I had to go home
for the summer. Hey, maybe someone even has the URL for the Space City
web instruction page....that would be great, then I can add it to my web
page. I can't seem to find it anywhere.....
