Hello everyone :)

A while back people on this list were discussing a Blakes7 RPG... could
anyone tell me if it was ever done, or if anyone is planning it? I am most
interested :) thankyou in advance, merry christmas :)

Actually, yes.

Not everyone particularly likes every character. But at least some of the
people there will be really pleased to meet any particular person involved.
Don't impose your own likes and dislikes on the rest of us.

Judith - well done for getting Brian. It's always a blow for a guest to
be unable to make it (although we all know that this can happen), and it's
really nice to see an effort made to fill-the-gap. Thanks.

Nothing to do with liking or disliking the character- I've done conventions
(as a guest) with Croucher before, and he's the rudest and most obnoxious
man I've ever met - and that's against some pretty stiff competition.

(example- Steward in Hostility suite: "would you like anything...?"
Croucher: "A blonde with big tits who likes it up her shiter.")

So don't patronise me.

I understand that the morning broadcsats will be cut because of the time slot,
but because of this fans persuaded C4 to show them in the Sunday eveing slot
uncut as well. Which means great self control in not watching the cut versions
and taking 5 weeks to watch the uncut (as well as avoiding all human contact in
the interim, just in case).

My big problem is that having come to Babylon 5 very late I haven't seen *any*
of season 5, nad the videos are not coming out until March - August. Now I
can't possibly go to redemption and avoid all talk of B5! Can anyone tell me,
given what i've heard about the introspection and different nature of season 5,
whether it might be reasonable to watch the last 5 episodes before the rest of
the season?

I bought a copy of it at Deliverance, and have it at home. Is there
anything in particular you want to know about it?

Of course everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. And no one is on
his/her best behavior at all times. But I've found Brian to be an
entertaining guest. I've also had dinner with him a couple of times and he
couldn't have been more considerate and polite.

Robert, I appreciate your positive attitude. It's great to have you on the
lists.

Maybe my use of the word "character" is confusing here. I'm not talking
just about the characters from the production, but the characters of the
actors themselves. Some people will dislike some of them.

This is your view.

Others may disagree.

Really? Have we met? Did I tell you off for something? Or are you just
pissed off because I'm not saying what you want to hear?

Well, at least I've yet to go up on stage and rant about "those fucking
women," "Those fucking poofs" and "those fucking Pakis" as Croucher did at
Who's 7 in 94.

I'm four feet deep in convention work at the moment so I'd rather someone else
volunteered. It may only require something as simple as letting them know that
a better version of 'Rescue' exists. Then they can ask he BBC if they so
desire.

Ahmmmm. Though I'm not much in the Christmas mood this year, I'm finding
these conversations rather jarring. Can we leave it at that some people have
their reasons for being less than thrilled at Croucher's coming appearance,
and others, like myself, have never seen him and would like the opportunity to
judge for ourselves? I don't see anything to be gained by much more discussion
on what is a moot issue. d. Rose

And, for the sake of those of you who *aren't* Robert Baskerville...

I'd presume of course that Judith will keep him in line- and Jan Chappell
and Kev Davies assure me that he's usually a nice guy.

So I'm still looking forward to it, unless Judith bans me (I have a natural

At the very least, you can watch the last episode (with a box of hankies,
I cried the entire time) since it was made at the end of season 4. There
are somethings that might not make a whole lot of sense unless you'd seen
the earlier parts of the season for the other four, but there's always the
possibility of picking up some of what's going on -- my first episode was
War Without End part 2 :). So basically a portion of what you watch will
definitely spoil the previous episodes, so you might do well to read a
synopsis online before seeing the 4 before Sleeping in Light. The last
five were definitely some of the best stuff in the season.

To bring it back to B7, was there actually an attempt for B7 to have
"arcs" for each season like B5, other than trying to keep the show from
completely contradicting itself? Basically, was the progression in say
season 2 intentional like B5, or accidental?

I wasn't overly impressed by Ming the Merciless' RPG. I thought it was
unimaginatively derivative, top heavy with book-keeping, and basically
rather sterile. On the other hand, it's a good base to tinker with if you
like making up rules...

I would suggest adapting an existing set of rules to B7. The Star Wars RPG
is a good slick system, ideal for narrative/character based gaming. Or try
2300AD if hard SF is more your line.

Has anyone thought of negotiating a B7 franchise for GURPS?

Damn, damn, someone stealing my thunder already (oy ve!). But seriously,
Dangermouse's remarks open a new slant on an actor I'd always taken to be a
right-on working class hero. What was the context of these remarks about
women, poofs and Pakis? The big blonde comment is the kind I'd make myself
without remotely meaning it, so I don't attach much importance to that.
Guess I'll have to see him in action at Rdemption.

I've played in a B7-type universe using GURPS, which worked okay. Hunted by
the Federation is a 120 point disadvantage, which being a group
disadvantage, bypasses the 40 point disad limit, and gives more than decent
characters using a 100 point base.

Champions might also work well with B7, given the difficulty of killing
characters in it - there wouldn't be a great threat of the PCs actually
being killed.

What's 2300AD like? I've never come across it.

I have to agree with this, unfortunately. It feels very much like a
second-rate RPG from the early 80s (which is not a good thing).

Given the current state of the RPG market, I doubt that SJG could
afford to do it. Which is a shame, since I think they're the most
likely people to make a good game out of it (GURPS Prisoner is great,
and that series is *much* harder to make a good RPG out of).

No, I think any GURPS B7 would have to be a partisan effort, along the
lines of GURPS Romance.

Thanks for all your replies. However, the consensus appears to be that
only the episodes SPACEFALL and RESCUE were cut. If this is so, then
why do so many of the videos covers not state that the tapes include "
UNEDITED EPISODES - the tape containing VOLCANO for example?

Some of the arc, like the search for Star One, was certainly deliberate. Other
seasons varied, but each tended to have its own character. I believe season 3
was originally intended to be a 'looking for Blake' season, though in fact only
two of the stories came out this way and the net result is that season 3 feels
as though it is drifting rather (though some of the individual episodes such as
Children of Auron, Rumours of Death and Sarcophagus form a mini-arc).

The first three or four episodes of season one are also a distinct mini-arc.

I think one important things even though it isn't a story arc per se is that the
characters were allowed to change and develop over time. Thus we get both
Travis and Blake becoming increasingly fanatic in the second season. We get
major changes in Avon's character as he copes with life without first Blake and
then without Cally and Liberator. Vila's attitude to Avon changes after Orbit
(I alway felt that was good acting on Michael Keating's part).

Thus, even in parts of the series where there wasn't a story arc, there is often
a feel of continuity due to the character development. I would certainly try
and persuade people to watch the series in order.
