I finally get to feeling well enough to post and the list goes quiet. I'll
just pick up a thread from a week or so ago.

In a message dated 6/20/99 9:56:47 PM Pacific Daylight Time,

This is very possible.

Hmmm, I had the impression that it had been put in when he became first
champion. When Deeta charged it up before the duel, he made a comment to
Max about "Let's see if it still works." As for the name, why would anyone
name a kid Vila or Kerr or Meegat? How about Veron? Poor Deeta isn't the
only character with a less than desireable first name.:-)

In the episode, Max told Del that both combatants had had microsensors
implanted in their brains, connected to a conductive mesh that had been
etched into the bone of the skull. That doesn't sound like it could be
removed easily, if at all.

This got me thinking about the Teal-Vandor Convention and the code duello
that was apparently in force on these worlds. Their way of settling disputes
did save a lot of lives and destruction. Also, with a hostile superpower on
their borders, they couldn't afford to waste military strength fighting with
each other. The whole point of Servalan's scheme was to get Teal and Vandor
fighting with each other to weaken both systems and make them easy prey.

I was struck by the circus atmosphere that surrounded the combat. I had the
feeling that it didn't really matter that much to the average citizens of
Teal and Vandor which side won; their lives weren't going to change. It
seemed as though they didn't really care that someone *was* going to die.
The duel was just entertainment to them. Deeta seemed to be quite fed up
with this aspect of his job. Teal and Vandor both seemed to be very cultured
and civilized on the surface, but with something nasty lurking under the
facade of civility.

On a Red Dwarf episode (the PBS station here is running season 8) the five
crew members were jailed, and inadvertently volunteered to be part of a crew
sent down to explore a ship abandoned by it's crew. Sound somewhat familiar?
The rest of the story doesn't match Spacefall, but that part reminded me of
B7.

I saw an Eastenders episode recently, originally broadcast in 1997 in
England, featuring Brian Croucher as a hardware store own with a teenage
daughter.

I guess that's as close to rerunning Blake's 7 as any PBS stations will ever
come.

Does anyone have a copy of the zine Dark Between the Stars #5?
If so, would you be willing to photocopy 2 pages for me? I believe the
pages in question are 87 and 88. At any rate, they're the pages which
give a synopsis of the first 5 chapters of J.Kel's serial The Pattern of
Infinity. (I pulled them out of my own copy for reference and have
stupidly misplaced them.) If you can help me out with this, please e-mail
me privately.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Ecclecticon in Newark in November looks
a possibility. Has anyone got the details or is there a web site for it.

Had the former (#@$!%# harddisks), not the latter, so I've been without
e-mail for the last three days. Fortunately my mailbox was on the company
network, so I didn't loose anything important. But that's why I've been out
of touch since thursday night. Just thought I'd let everyone know.
