I'm sure I've left things out-- let me know if you spot any omissions or mistakes. Oh, and there are also some things that I just listed originally as "multiple crossover" (such as Nikki White's Ensovaari Empire multiverse), and I'm not sure exactly what they include. It probably won't surprise anyone that Doctor Who is the universe most often crossed over with B7, given that so many B7 fans started out as Whovians. I have heard a bit about Lovecraft but have never read anything by him, so I thought that I would like to start by locating this book. However, I can't find anything by that title on Amazon's page and even the site I found styling itself as the definitve Lovecraft page http://www.hplovecraft.com doesn't mention it in the list of his Fiction. My name is Susan Riaz and I have been a big fan of B7 since it was originally shown in the UK (I live in London). I was quite involved in fandom until a couple of years ago, when I had a serious illness and sort of 'dropped out'. I would love to get back in touch with old friends and, hopefully, meet some more. I know that Neil Faulkner subscribes as he suggested this to me (hi Neil!). I used to be a member of 'The Way Back' and 'On the Wing' (for a short while) and would love to hear from any members if they are reading this. As a fan of the show who has come back after a short time, I notice that a lot of zines seem to have disappeared. I knew "Gambit" was gone, but there seems to be few 'long-running' genzines. They all seem to be specials. I know that some editors became disullusioned with criticisisms, etc - Nicole Petty certainly got very upset at some zine reviews. I wonder what anybody else thinks of this? I mean, on the plus side, what IS available certainly seems to be of very good quality - Judith Proctor has certainly done a lot to improve the look of zines available in the UK. The reason I mention this is that I was toying with the idea of attempting to produce a genzine myself - even though I have no idea of how to go about it! But, seriously, just for fun(?!) I thought I might have a go. Somebody please talk me out of it!!! Anyway, it was nice to be able to write this and get in touch with others who share my obsession. Hope to hear from you all soon. Yikes. Teach me to open my big mouth - people take you at your word ;) I want to come up with a good theme for it - I'm not sure what sort of stories I want yet. Although as it seems people are having problems with submissions these days, the theme might be 'written by people called Una McCormack'. My copy is not with me at work - you can't plan for everything ), it's by Stephen W Parsons, and the programme is meant to be in Lovecraft's style. And that's all I know, I'm afraid. I am mostly a list lurker, but a loyal lurker and a loyal long time fan. > As a fan of the show who has come back after a short time, I notice that > a lot of zines seem to have disappeared. I blame the web. Many sci-fi fans are techy enuf to have a web connection. We spend so much time on email lists these days that who has time to read fanzines? Much less write for them! And, those of us who like to write, write lots on various lists. So we have "scratched that itch" in another forum other than fanzines. Partly, I expect it's also because B7 is now such an old fandom. And, partly, because the 90s brought us (at least in the U.S.) such a plethora of sci-fi shows than many fen just got over-gorged on the genre. And, partly, because the baby boom generation got old. And the younger Gen-X is reportedly far friendlier with video than with print. Times change. Heroes die. Federations fail. Galaxies burn out into dead empty space. > The reason I mention this is that I was toying > with the idea of attempting to produce a genzine myself - even though I > have no idea of how to go about it! The production (soliciting stories, editing, copying & collating) is the easy part. Think about how you will market and sell it. Sales is always the tough part. The list is quiet now due to summer break, I think. I suspect there are a lot of students and people using University web connections on this list, cause it always goes dead when school breaks arrive. And, because some of us have gone off to play on a Buffy/Blake cross over list. Say, you wouldn't like to write a Buffy/Blake alternate universe story, would you? A zine is in the works: Staked Blake. again, welcome to the list Pat Patera ________________________________________________________ NetZero - We believe in a FREE Internet. Shouldn't you?
