        This ritual is great for a lot of things besides just going to
sleep :).  It's a particularly powerful form of banishing/cleansing
ritual both for an area and yourself.  In Kabbalistic traditions it's
known as the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, and I believe
that a form of it is taught in the Gardnerian and/or Alexandrian
traditions.  Anyone know about this?

No, this is not quite the same as the traditional Lesser Banishing
Pentagram Ritual in that the caster uses only visualization and not
the ritual language that goes along with the LBP. (Also, no invoking
of the archangels)

Sleep circle --

Slightly different technique, but a big ditto from here!
Fifteen years' worth of students doing psychic stuff out there --
not a single one harmed while sleeping in a circle.  Several were
troubled when they forgot or neglected to circle the bed, tho...

Actually, I like Marjorie's technique a lot.  It covers all the
same ground as mine, without resorting to the doggerel I use.

Oh, for those of you severely into doggerel, it goes:

Conjure circle round the bed
Where I lay my weary head
That in its gold and silver light
I will spend a peaceful night.
  So Mote It Be.

Simple enough to teach the kid -- and it works even for adults.
Add Marjorie's flaming pentagrams, don't forget the over-and-
under wrapping, and you're even safe from the monster under the
bed (let alone any *real* magickal nasties...)
